Dean Massage,

As Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Benadir University, I would like to share my commitment to provide our student with comprehensive education and learning environment to reach their full potential in the medical field. I am personally committed to the success of each individual student.

Our academic staffs are the most qualified in their given field of study and are noted for their stellar teaching abilities, their clinical experience, and their scholarly activities placing them at the cutting edge of the medical world.

We aim to provide our students with vast resources of scientific and medical knowledge coupled with and professionalism and compassion toward patients and the community. Our graduates are distinguished not only by their exemplary patient care but also by their remarkable academic achievements.

Through the years, Benadir University College of Medicine has been in the forefront in innovation and research of medicine in the region. Benadir University is one of the few higher education institutions that combines traditional teaching methods with problem-based learning. Students are encouraged to incorporate self-directed learning and the development of active inquiry and critical reasoning skills to their normal curriculum. We also have developed a unique cadre of combined-degree programs that promotes multifaceted skills and knowledge.

The newly established Center for Learning (CoL)is commissioned with the task of upholding consistency for all Benadir educational activities. The center may act as a catalyst for curricular innovation, evaluation, and research at all levels of medical training. This center will ultimately benefit student as their medical program continually improves.

B.U. places upon its shoulders the task of education next generation of and consistently pushing the frontiers of human knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the world of medicine.  As future doctors, our students and graduates are responsible to pass their knowledge in to patients, the community, and the world.

In the late 2007’s, the Institution planned to establish a joint department of Family Medicine and Community Health in recognition of the national need to produce more primary care physicians. This new department is currently underway and attracting many prospective students.

Successful completion of our program enables Benadir graduates to obtain outstanding programs ranging from generalist medicine to highly specialized practice; and subsequently to achieve their fullest potential as clinicians, researchers, and public health workers.

B.U. Faculty of Medicine is very selective and competitive to enroll. Only the most academically astute and morally upright stand a chance in walking the halls of this department.

Introduction

The greatest obstacle to effective and comprehensive health care in the developing countries is the inability to provide sufficient numbers of physicians to care for public health needs.

Quantity of physicians is not the only problem faced by developing countries but also the quality of each physician. Inadequate health care professionals in the region are challenged by understaffing, lack f proper medical equipment, and most of all proper training and experience to tackle the health needs of a mostly poor and uneducated public.

Banadir University cannot address all of the medical health problems of Somalia but it can provide the community and the nation physicians that are both competent and skilled. By educating and training future health care professionals, Benadir University can effectively increase the quantity of healthcare professionals in the community and the nation as well as drastically increasing the quality of healthcare provided.
